Temporary Residence Card Residency · 1 year
The Temporary Residence Card is the entry-level permit for foreign nationals wishing to establish residency in Monaco. It is renewable annually and serves as the foundation for long-term residency in the Principality.
Non-EU/EEA/Swiss nationals must first obtain a French long-stay visa (Type D) before applying for residency in Monaco. Once granted, the residency card confirms your legal status as a resident.
Ordinary Residence Card Residency · 3 years
The Ordinary Residence Card is granted after several renewals of the Temporary Residence Card, offering greater stability and a longer validity period of three years.
To qualify, applicants must demonstrate continued genuine residence in Monaco, maintain their accommodation, and show sufficient financial means to support themselves without working in the Principality.
Privileged Residence Card Residency · 10 years
The Privileged Residence Card is issued after 10 years of continuous residence in Monaco and is commonly referred to as the equivalent of Monaco permanent residency. It offers the greatest stability and long-term security for residents.
Important: Extended absence risks non-renewal of the permit. Monaco has a restrictive approach to dual nationality — in principle, dual citizenship is not recognized under Monegasque law. After 10 years of continuous residence, holders may apply for Monegasque citizenship by naturalization, though approval is highly discretionary.
